SKILLS FOR LIFE

Skills for Life is Bearings’ drop-in after school program. Open four days a week, kids learn how to build and fix bikes, earning points for each hour they “work”. Points can be used to “purchase” a bike from our ever-changing stock of refurbished bikes. Because of the generosity of our donors, we are able to offer the Skills for Life program at no cost to participants’ families.

Skills for Life is a drop-in program. Unless parents or guardians designate that they will transport their children, students are permitted to come and go on their own.

Enrollment is ongoing, so if your family is read to get started, stop by during program hours, call 404-484-4180, or drop us an email. You can also download and fill out the Enrollment Form at the link below if you’d like to do so in advance!

DROP-IN PROGRAM HOURS

982 Murphy Avenue at The Garage

Monday thru Thursday, 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

YOUTH MOUNTAIN BIKING

The Bearings Bike Works competitive youth cycling program aims to give kids skill-building experience through mountain biking. Our co-ed team serves students from middle and high schools throughout the city and is open to all riding levels. Through rider development clinics, practices, and competitive races, this program focuses on personal growth and achievement. Bearings works to remove all barriers to participation for a kid who wants to ride. Meaning, we can provide the bike, gear, transportation and race day support to any student that needs it, so that kids are free to experience the best the sport has to offer and have the time of their lives on the trails.

FRAMEWORKS CAREER ACCELERATOR PROGRAM

The Frameworks Career Accelerator Program is designed to help teens and young adults ages 15 to 22 gain hands-on technical skills, real-world work experience, and professional mentorship—all while making a positive impact in the community. Whether they’re looking to start your career, build confidence, or find a clear path forward, our program equips young adults with the tools you need to succeed. Offering two formats for both teens still in high school or those who are out of school but not yet working, Bearings helps young adults learn advanced mechanical skills, build a support network, and take the first step towards their future.

CONE CRUSHER CLINICS

Students are invited to join Bearings Bike Works to learn and improve their bike handling skills through a series of clinics in Adair Park.

Clinics are open to riders ages 6-18. Participants will need a bike and helmet (Bearings will provide if needed!). These clinics are open to riders of varying skill levels but students must be able to ride their bike confidently without training wheels. Register below to be informed of the next clinic date.

THURSDAY NIGHT SUPPERS

Bearings is a community hub for youth in southwest Atlanta centered around bikes and helping students develop the skills they need to move into adulthood successfully. From May through September, Bearings hosts weekly suppers after programming on Thursday nights. These meals are open to program participants and their families and create space for conversation and meaningful connection beyond the bike.

BRICK CLUB

Every Tuesday during Skills for Life starting at 4:30, kids can join Brick Club for fun Lego challenges and prizes, where they build creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while working together with friends to complete awesome Lego kits! We love expanding our STEM enrichment offerings and are so excited about the enthusiasm we've gotten so far from the kids.

Have old Legos at home? Donate them to help us keep the creativity going!
