HOST A BIKE DRIVE FOR BEARINGS!
Why Host a Bike Drive?
Hosting a bike drive directly supports the work of Bearings Bike Works and the programs that keep bikes circulating in our community.
Bikes collected through drives are used to:
Fuel our refurbished bike shop — donated bikes are rebuilt by our team and sold at accessible price points, generating earned revenue that sustains our mission
Train the next generation of bike mechanics — youth and young adults gain hands-on experience through our paid job training and fellowship programs
Support Bearings youth cycling programs — including skill-building clinics, teams, and after-school programming that rely on safe, reliable bikes
Increase bike access on Atlanta’s Westside — putting quality bikes back into the community where access to transportation and recreation matters most
Reduce waste — bikes and parts are reused or responsibly recycled instead of ending up in landfills
A bike drive is one of the most direct ways to support Bearings Bike Works: every donated bike becomes a tool for training, access, and long-term impact.

How It Works
-
Decide on your goal (e.g., number of bikes to collect) and a timeframe that works for your organization or community group (e.g., 1 day, 1 week, 1 month).
-
Promote the drive via email, social media, newsletters, or flyers. Bearings Bike Works can provide sample language and graphics to help get the word out.
-
Designate a secure collection spot during your drive and keep bikes organized as they come in. If possible, use an indoor location to protect bikes from the elements. If collecting outdoors, secure bikes with a long-chain lock or cable to prevent tipping or theft, and arrange them so donors can easily drop off bikes.
-
At the end of the drive, schedule a drop-off with Bearings. Share results with your network, thank donors, and reflect on the impact your drive had for both the community and our programs. Every bike donated through a bike drive enters the Bearings Bike Works ecosystem!
Bikes are assessed by our professional staff and fellows, then refurbished in our shop using high-quality parts and safety standards. Through this process, donated bikes become hands-on training tools for youth and young adults learning real-world mechanic and job skills.
Once refurbished, bikes are either sold through our retail shop at accessible price points—helping fund our programs—or placed directly into Bearings youth cycling programs, where they are used for clinics, teams, and after-school programming. Bikes or parts that cannot be safely reused are responsibly recycled.
The Impact
A bike drive creates layered impact that lasts well beyond the collection period.
Each donated bike supports paid job training, strengthens our youth programs, and helps keep our shop sustainable through earned revenue. At the same time, bike drives increase access to reliable bicycles on Atlanta’s Westside and reduce waste by keeping usable bikes and parts out of landfills.
By hosting a bike drive, partners play a direct role in turning unused bikes into skills, opportunity, and access—one bike at a time.
Expands access to affordable transportation
Diverts bikes from landfills
Supports job training and skill development
