Serving in a time of uncertainty

When COVID-19 forced our programs’ suspension in March 2020, staff pivoted to provide critical outreach and assistance to the families we serve through daily outreach calls, food and financial assistance, “boredom buster” care package deliveries, and technology donations (i.e. laptops to assist with virtual school work). Throughout this time, our focus has remained the same: to build relationships and help people overcome challenges.

Bearings’ program staff has worked diligently to maintain connection and provide support to our participants and families, especially those affected most by the pandemic. Over the last few months, our staff has:

- Coordinated 130 food deliveries to Bearings and community families through a partnership with Redeemer Community Church.

- Conducted outreach calls and texts to 189 families, checking in regularly when possible to offer support, connect to resources, and provide direct assistance when possible.

- Delivered care packages with fun educational activities and games to over 100 participants.

- Coordinated donations and delivered items for families in need such as laptops, an iPad, and a washing machine.

- Distributed 131 bikes to Bearings participants and community members and provided approximately 109  bike repairs.

- Provided mini-grants to 30 families through a partnership with the Stand Together Foundation's Give Together Now program and provided 5 grants directly from Bearings.
