Collins’ Story

Twelve years ago, 13-year-old Collins was heading down a road to nowhere good. He met Tim O’Mara after he had stolen a dirt bike from Tim’s neighbor. Tim and Becky got to know Collins, and eventually got him a bike of his own. A friendship started to form.

“I was shy so I tried my best to fit in,” says Collins. “But I tried to fit in with the wrong people. Bad people to be hanging around. Just lost, really.”

The bike Collins had earned created time. Time for a relationship to form and mentoring moments to come about.

“It’s not about the bike, it’s about the time really,” he says. “It’s about the time you spend with the people that enjoy learning about you, the time that they help you through whatever problem you have.”

Last year Collins graduated from college and got his first full-time job. Bearings exists for kids just like Collins: to be the time-creating and relationship-building environment that makes a difference in future success.
