Get Involved!

  • Our drop-in program welcomes students to Bearings Monday-Thursday afternoons. Shop coaches guide and mentor students in the shop, supervising small groups of participants as they work on bikes. You don’t have to be a bike expert, just willing to build relationships, offer encouragement, and help kids as they develop skills. Volunteers typically commit to a year of weekly or bi-weekly 2-hour sessions.

  • Bearings hosts several events throughout the year that inform the community about the work we do or raise money for our programs. Volunteers help with set-up, clean-up and everything in between to help make these events happen! If you’re interested in offering your time to Bearings a few times a year, we’d love to connect!

  • We wouldn’t be where we are today without the constant support of community members donating their old bikes so that we can give them a new life. All bikes that are earned by students are donated from people across the metro Atlanta region. Hosting a bike drive at your business is a great way to engage your employees, civic group, or church in a hands-on give back experience (not to mention help clean out their garage)!

  • Coaches play an important role in the Bearings Mountain Biking program, both in helping students develop riding skills as well as in building positive developmental relationships with students on and off the bike. While at practices or races coaches help progress the students mountain biking abilities, help with set-up and clean up of equipment, and provide support to other coaches and riders. All you need is the passion to spend time outside with student-athletes eager for positive mentorship. If you’d like to offer your skills for something like this, we’d love to connect!

  • Sometimes getting out of our comfort zones and engaging in a new activity is the perfect environment for a group to learn how to work together. Bearings can partner with you to craft a team-building or give back experience for your team! Whether volunteering at Bearings or hosting an event at your workplace, we’d love to work with you to design an event that engages your team and supports Bearings’ ongoing mission.

  • If you have mechanical or related skills, are passionate about financial literacy, or just have an interest in helping better prepare students for the workforce, we’d love to connect with you. Community members participate in job training workshops and coaching sessions with our interns, teach financial literacy classes, and host workplace visits. We’re also regularly developing new learning experiences to expose students to transferable mechanical skills. If you’d like to offer your skills for something like this, we’d love to connect!
